Information on hiring a local part-time domestic helper
It is important for employers to be aware that migrant domestic workers have a special visa, which only allows them to work for one employer/contract at a time. On this visa, they are only permitted to be employed under the Standard Employment Contract for domestic helpers.
Local domestic helpers are not on a domestic helper visa, are permitted to work part-time, and employers are not required to provide accommodation.
Hiring of part-time domestic workers in Hong Kong can be done through direct hiring or agencies. Usually, part-time workers hired through an agency can only assist in specific tasks such as cleaning service or childcare. Directly hired part-time domestic workers can assist with a wider range of tasks in accordance to the agreed labour contract.
